Freebie Friday: ULTRAFLOW (mobile)

Freebie Friday is a semi-regular news feature where we talk about a freeware, just free or open source game. It can be anything from a throwaway web game to a free-to-play RPG or mobile puzzle game. This time: Mobile head-scratcher ULTRAFLOW.

After last week’s article about minimal puzzler Hook, reader heartyparty pointed me to another great little mobile game called ULTRAFLOW. Designed by a group of students over the course of six months using Unity3D, it’s a slick and professional app.

Taking a page out of the same design handbook as Hook, ULTRAFLOW keeps things on screen as simple and monochrome as possible, focusing on pure gameplay. The game is easy: just flick the smaller circle into the bigger circle. But wait! There’s stuff in the way? You’d better get good at rebounding! As the levels get harder, new obstacles appear, from moving objects to speed-boosting conveyor belts.

ULTRAFLOW is a minimalist yet complex puzzle game based on your agility. You have a limited number of bounces to complete each level. No score. No timer. The only challenge is your smoothness.

  • 99 Levels
  • Completely free
  • No Ads
  • Google Play Games Achievements
  • Optimized for a wide range of phones and tablets

There are some tricks to getting to the end. The harder you flick the circle, the more momentum you will have, slightly changing how it reacts to bounces. Sometimes it needs some speed, sometimes you need a softer touch to get to the goal. Much like Hook, though, this game is both relaxing and frustrating in equal measures. But it’s always fun.

Download ULTRAFLOW for free, available right now on Google Play, iOS, Windows Phone and Amazon. You can also play it free on Gamejolt or itch.io. If you enjoyed it, you could always chuck the developers some beer money via a PayPal donation.
